-3 multiplied by -3 is 9 but when i do -3 squared it comes up as -9?

No, this question keeps cropping up.

 

(-3)*(-3) = +9

 

But

 

-3^2 means -1*(3^2)  = -9 for most calculators, because exponentiation (raising to a power) takes precedence over negation.

 

(Microsoft Excel spreadsheets provide a rare exception.  Excel gives a unary minus higher precedence than exponentiation!)

i dont know what you missed. maybe you forgot a negative sign or what but i did -3*-3 and -3^2 and it still turned out as 9. my best theory is that you forgot to add the negative sign
