9 One lap around a track is equal to one-eighth of a mile. A track star ran a distance of 11 laps in 15 minutes 30 seconds. What was the horse’s average speed in miles per minute?

The horse ran 11 (1/8)  =  11/8 miles

And 15 min 30 sec  =  15.5 min

So

Distance /  Time  =     (11/8) miles / (15.5) min  ≈  .089  miles per minute
