A vending machine has twice as many quarters in it as dollars. If the quarters and the dollar bills have a combined value of $96, how many quarters are in the machine?

Let x be the number of dollars, rhen 2x will be the number of quarters....

So

x + .25(2x) = 96    simplify

x +.50x = 96

1.5x = 96

(3/2)x = 96

x = 64

And 2x = 128 = the number of quarters
