how do you multiply (x-1) with abs(x)

  \(If\;\; x >0  \text{ then the product is }  x(x-1) = x^2-x\)

 \(If\;\; x <0 \text{ then the product is }  -x(x-1) = -x^2+x = -(x^2-x)\)
