Good Afternoon,

My homework has this diagram in it, and the question is asking me to find the value of "x".

I am not allowed to use a protractor.

The different answers you can choose from are

a. 10°

b.15°

c.20°

d.90°

If someone could answer the question for me, I would be very grateful.

Thank You.

Those angles lie on a straight line so they add to 180 degrees.

3x+10     +90   +   x+20 = 180

Now solve it

or stick the numbers in and see ehich ones work.

There are 180° in the sum of the angles of one side of a straight line.

The center angle is a right angle (the little box in its corner indicates a right angle), so it contains 90°.

This means that there are 90° left for the two angles of 3x + 10° and x + 20°.

An appropriate equation is:  (3x + 10°) + (x + 20°) = 90°.

Can you finish this?

Thanks Geno and Melody.

The answer is 15°.

(3x + 10°) + (x + 20°)= 90°

(3 x 15° + 10°) + (15° + 20°)= 90°

(55°) + (35°)= 90°
