How would I calculate the chance of something depending on the value of it?

As our guest said, this is called probablility.

Probabilities go between zero and +1    They cannot be outside this range.

If something cannot happen then the propability of it happening is zero

If somthing has to happen then the probability of it happening is 1.

Say there are 3 green b***s and 5 red b***s in a container and you randomly choose one.

What is the chance (probability ) of choosing a red one?

3+5=8

There are 8 possible b***s you could choose.  8 is said to be the size of the "sample space."

There are 5 red b***s.  You want a red one so there are "5 favourable events"

Prob of choosing a red one = number of red ones divided by the total number of b***s.

\(P(red)=\frac{favourable \;events}{Total\; number \;in \;sample\; space}=\frac{number\; of \;red\; b***s}{Total \;number\; of \;b***s}=\frac{5}{8}\;\;or\;\;0.625\)

That belongs to a branch of Math called "Probobility Theory or Theorem", which can get very, very complicated, depending on what you are trying to figure out. Here is a very simple example: In a class of 30 students, what is the probability that two of them share the same birthday? Meaning the same day of the year, such as: Jan.7, Feb.19, July 21.........etc. Do yo think you can figure it out? I will give the answer ONLY: There is a 70.63% chance that two of them will have the same birthday!!.
