I just found this in a math book, not part of the assignment, and I'd like to know how 3x+7/x+7 doesn't equal 2x.

mind helping?

 thanks!

3x+7/x+7   getting a common denominator of "x"

[ 3x^2   + 7   +   7x  ]  /  x

One of our regulars, hectictar, pointed out to me that this might be :

(3 x + 7)  / (x + 7)      if so, we have

               3

x + 7   [   3x +  7   ]

               3x  + 21 ]

              ________

                      -14

The result is   3  + [ -14 / ( x + 7) ]

Thanks , hectictar  !!!!!
