A cheetah can run briefly with a speed of 31.0 m/s. Suppose a cheetah with a mass of 47.0 kg runs at this speed. What is the cheetah’s energy?

Kinetic Energy = 1/2 m v^2

KE= 1/2 (47)(31^2) = 32583.5 j   or 32.5835 kj (kilojoule)

Kinetic Energy??

KE =1/2 x Mass x Velocity^2

KE =1/2 x 47 x 31^2

KE =22,583.5 Joules.

Guest is correct....I used proper equation, but ' mistyped the answer  (I type a '3' where it should have been a '2' )

Kinetic Energy is defined as half of the mass multiplied by the velocity squared, in other words

\(E_{k}= \frac{mv^2}{2}\)

From the question we are given the mass m, which is equal to 47.0 kg. We are also given a velocity v, which is equal to 31.0 m/s. Hence by plugging in the number into the formula we get:

\(E_{k}= \frac{47.0*31.0^2}{2} = 22583.5 \approx 22600 \text{J}\)
