this problem makes more sense if it is written out, but hopefully this will make sense

5/15=(x+2)/x

5/15 can be reduced to 1/3

1/3 = (x+2)/x
multiply both sides by (x)

1/3x = x+2
divide both sides by (1/3)... this is really multiplying both sides by (3/1) which is equal to (3)

x= 3(x+2)
multiply each item in the parenthesis by (3)

x= 3x+6
subtract (3x) from both sides

-2x=6
divide both sides by (-2)

x= -3

gotta love math
