3x+5y-8=0 that passes through the point (-8,1)

We have the form Ax + BY + C = 0  and the slope of this line is just -A/B = -3/5

And a perpendicular line will have negative reciprocal slope = 5/3

And using the point-slope form, we have

y = (5/3)(x + 8) - 1

y = (5/3)x + 40/3 - 1

y = (5/3)x + 37/3

In standard form, we have

5x - 3y + 37 = 0
