how should I solve b? i already solved a and got 1:2

the dimensions of the photo irl is 1.6in by 1.875in (the photo was on my textbook, so it was accessible to measure)

Note that we can find the scale factor thusly :

 

(3  +1/4)  /  `1.6  =

 

(13 / 4 ) / ( 16 / 10)  =

 

(13 / 4)  / ( 8 / 5 )  =

 

(13 / 4) * ( 5 / 8 )  =

 

(65 / 32) = 2.03125

 

So...."x "  =  1.875 * 2.03125 = 3.80859375

 

Proof.....the area of the enlargement is 3.80859375 * 3.25 = 12.3779296875 in^ 2

 

And rhe area of the smaller picture times the square of the scale factor should equal this

 

So  .... 1.6 * `1.875 *  2.03125 ^2  = 12.3779296875 in^2
