John made 60 ml of dragonfuit smoothie that is 30% dragonfruit. He wants to make a smoothie with 40% dragonfruit. How much more dragonfruit does he need?
Please explain as well. Thanks.
He needs to add some quantity, x, of 100% dragonfruit to the 60 ml of 30% mixture to produce a quantity of (60 + x) ml at 40%
Mathematically we have
60* .30 + x * 1.00 = (60 + x) * .40 simplify
18 + x = 24 + .40x subtract 18 and .40x from both sides
.60x = 6 divide both sides by .60
x = 10 ml of 100% dragonfruit need to be added
