September 22, 1792

Paris, France

The Gregorian calendar is replaced with the new Republican calendar.

The French revolutionary calendar had 12 months of 30 days plus 1 month of 5 days (or 6 days every four years to stay synchronized with the Gregorian calendar).

The months were:

Autumn:

-Vendémiaire

-Brumaire

-Frimaire

Winter:

-Nivôse

-Pluviôse

-Ventôse

Spring:

-Germinal

-Floréal

-Prairial

Summer:

-Messidor

-Thermidor

-Fructidor

The 13th month was called "Sans-culottides".

The weeks were replaced with "décades" which were "weeks" of 10 days. The days of the décade were:

-Primidi

-Duodi

-Tridi

-Quartidi

-Quintidi

-Sextidi

-Septidi

-Octidi

-Nonidi

-Décadi

The 1st day of the calendar is the 1er Vendémiaire. The years were written in Roman numerals, and the first year (An I de la République) began on September 22, 1792 (which corresponds to the "1er Vendémiaire An I de la République").

Example:

The coup d'etat of Napoleon Bonaparte was on the 18 Brumaire, An VIII (November 9, 1799).

Using these information, try determinate the current date in the Republican calendar.

(This question was submitted on Sunday, June 5, 2015. That's the date you have to find in the Revolutionary calendar.)

You have to show all your calculations!

I'm sure you could! I have done it; it's much easier than you think.

Very nice, EinsteinJr.......!!!!

In his book "Asimov on Numbers," Isaac Asimov presents a short article on the (confusing) history of the calendar....it is very interesting.......

{P. S.  .....I am sure that I could not calculate the correct date you asked for......LOL!! }
