Which solution for the value of x in the figure below is incorrect? Explain.

You can imagine "sliding down" the upper line onto the lower line to see that they will be vertical angles, and so are congruent. The two angles have the same measure, so....

 

4x - 2  =  3x + 6

 

4x - 3x  =  6 + 2

 

x  =  8
