$8 - $6 = $2 the amount of the discount on the shirt.

$2 / $8 =0.25 x 100= 25% discount that Jessie received on the shirt.

 

You can also do it this way:

1 - ($6 / $8) = 1 - 0.75 = 0.25 x 100 = 25%. Choose the method you understand the best.
