y=x^2+5x-6
The x intercepts occur where y = 0 ....so....
0 = x^2 + 5x - 6 factor
0 = ( x -1) ( x + 6)
Set both factors to 0.....solve for x
x - 1 = 0 x + 6 = 0
add 1 to both sides subtract 6 from both sides
x = 1 x = -6
And those are the two x intercepts
