Find the cost of a single can by dividing the dollar value of four cans by 4.  This will give you the cost of a single can.  Multiply the cost of a single can by the number of cans which you are attempting to find the cost of.

4 cans of grapefruit juice costs $3.36. Find the cost of one dozen cans of grapefruit juice. Use a proportion.

Let the cost of a dozen cans = C, then we have:

3.36 / 4 = C / 12   Cross multiply:

40.32 = 4C             Divide both sides by 4:

C = 40.32 / 4

C = $10.08 - Cost of a dozen cans of grapefruit juice.
