2x² - 16x + 32  =  0

 

First divide through by  2 .

 

x² - 8x + 16  =  0

 

Now we can factor the left side. What two numbers add to  -8  and multiply to  16  ?

-4 and -4  , so it factors like this..

 

(x - 4)(x - 4)  =  0

 

(x - 4)²  =  0       Take the square root of both sides.

 

x - 4  =  0       Add  4  to both sides.

 

x  =  4
