1.   The pentagon shown can be divided into 10 equal triangles....the base  of each = 10ft

And the height of each can be expressed as  10/ tan36°

So the total area  =

10 (1/2) (10) (10/tan36)  ≈  688.2 ft^2

2.  The octagon shown can be divided into 8  equal isosceles triangles.......the equal sides = 9 m   and the included angle between these = 45°

So the total area  =

8*(1/2)(9^2) sin(45)  ≈  229.1 m^2
