I'm confused on how to do the short multiplication method?

But, the answer is 1976, but I'm not sure how it does that?

If by short you mean doing this problem in your head then take 52 and multiply it by 30 which 1,560. Then take 52 and multiply it by 8 which is 416. Add the solutions you just got which will equate to 1,976 which is the correct answer.
