Use the distributive property:

Simplify:

12x + 3  =  14 + 3x + 18

Simplify:

12x + 3  =  3x + 32

Subtract 3x from both sides:

9x + 3  =  32

Subtract 3 from both sides:

9x  =  29

Divide both sides by 3:

x = 29/9
