how would you solve 1= -1+a/16

put the numbers on one side. Remember that when you a number from one side to the other, the sign(+,-) changes. So,

1+1=a/16

2=a/16 remember this means: 2/1=a/16. Then you cross multiply

1 x a=2 x 16

a=32
