35 is 60% of what number is question.

I tried taking 10% chunks, so 3.5 and multiplying by 6.  That was wrong.  Help?

Let the number be =N, so we have:

60% of N = 35

60/100 x N = 35

0.60 x N = 35 divide both sides by 0.60

N =35 / 0.60

N =58 1/3

Hi

Guest has given you a nice algebraic answer.  You should get comfortable with it.

BUT

I will talk you through a more intuiteve method.

3.5 is 10% of 60%

so 3.5 is 6%   not   10%

\(35  \;\; \quad is \;\;   \quad    60\%\\ so\\ \frac{35}{6}\;\; \quad is \;\;   \quad \frac{60\%} { 6}\\ \frac{35}{6}\;\;  \quad is \;\;    10\%\\ \frac{35}{6}*10\;\;\quad  is \;\; \quad   10\%*10\\ 58\frac{1}{3}\;\;\quad  is \;\; \quad   100\%\\\)
