If the average lap speed of a car is 144 mph how long would it take to complete a 2.5 mile lap?

Since the average speed of the car 144 mph, then 144/60=2.4 Miles per minute.

Since one lap is 2.5 miles, then 2.5/2.4=1 1/24 minutes, or 1 1/24 x 60=62.5 seconds to comlete one lap.

speed = distance / time

 

144=2.5/t

144t=2.5

t=2.5/144    hours

or

t=2.5/144*60*60   seconds

 

$$\left({\frac{{\mathtt{2.5}}}{{\mathtt{144}}}}\right){\mathtt{\,\times\,}}{\mathtt{60}}{\mathtt{\,\times\,}}{\mathtt{60}} = {\frac{{\mathtt{125}}}{{\mathtt{2}}}} = {\mathtt{62.5}}$$      seconds
