Solve this problem for points!

A petowner wanted to buy a 6 month supply of crickets for the lizard they had. The lizard ate 4 crickets a day, and one dozen crickets ate 3 grams of frruit and veggies everyday. How many crickets, and how many pounds of fruit does the pet owner need for a six month supply?

Hi MJCat  :)

I have had to make some assumptions here.

I have assumed that, on average, each cricket has to be fed for 1 day before it is eaten by the lizard.

Obviously if you buy bulk crickets it will cost more to feed them.

How many days in 6 months?

365/2 = 182.5       I'll round this up to 183 days

4 crickets a day, that will be

183*4 = 732 crickets in 6 months

one dozen (12) crickets eats 3 grams of fruit every day

so  12/3 = 4 crickets eat   3/4 = 0.75 grams of fruits each day.

so 0.75 grams of fruit for each of 183 days = 0.75*183 = 137.25 grams of fruit

So that is about 732 crickets and at least 138 grams of fruit.

I do not think that the crickets food bill will be very excessive, assuming of course that all the crickets live long enough to be eaten by the lizard. :))

Does your lizard eat other things?  Some people here keep blue tongue lizards for pets.  They just love bananas and strawberries :))

I just looked up what your brown anole lizzard eats :

"Brown anoles feed on small arthropods such as crickets, moths, ants, grasshoppers, cockroaches, mealworms, spiders, andwaxworms. They may also eat other lizards, such as the green anole, lizard eggs, and their own molted skin and detached tails."

So it seems that do not eat vegetables like our blue tonuges do.  Pit that :))

I wish I had known that when I had Lucy, I wasted alot of lettuce on her! I tried feeding Pepper mealworms, not sure if he liked them or not,  but the ones from the live bait section at the store die too fast, So I switched back to crickets. :)
