Thirty coins, all dimes and nickels, are worth $2.60. How many nickels are there? Write two equations. One for the total number of coins and one for what the amount of coins are worth. d = dimes, n = nickels.

I would really appreciate it if you could quickly respond as I was gone from school today and have lots of makeup work. Thanks in advance!

Total worth = 260 = 10d + 5n

Total coins = d + n = 30

260 = 10d + (30-d)5

        = 10d + 150 - 5 d

110 = 5 d     d = 22  dimes     n = 30 - dimes = 8 nickels
