Solve for x:
(2 x)/3 + 8 = 20

Put each term in (2 x)/3 + 8 over the common denominator 3: (2 x)/3 + 8 = (2 x)/3 + 24/3:
(2 x)/3 + 24/3 = 20

(2 x)/3 + 24/3 = (2 x + 24)/3:
(2 x + 24)/3 = 20

Multiply both sides of (2 x + 24)/3 = 20 by 3:
(3 (2 x + 24))/3 = 3×20

(3 (2 x + 24))/3 = 3/3×(2 x + 24) = 2 x + 24:
2 x + 24 = 3×20

3×20 = 60:
2 x + 24 = 60

Subtract 24 from both sides:
2 x + (24 - 24) = 60 - 24

24 - 24 = 0:
2 x = 60 - 24

60 - 24 = 36:
2 x = 36

Divide both sides by 2

x =36/2 = 18

$$\dfrac{2}{3}x + 8 = 20\\ \dfrac{2}{3}x + 8 - 8 = 20 - 8\\ \dfrac{2}{3}x = 12\\ \dfrac{2}{3}x \times \dfrac{3}{2}=12\times\dfrac{3}{2}\\ x = 18$$
