Q). Write 2(to the power of 25) x 5 (to the power of 27) in standard form.

Is there a way to do this more easily without a calculator? 

It's a 3 mark question so should be done in 3 minutes or so I assume?

 

I understand the answer is 2.5x10(to the power of 26) but edexcels revision booklet doesn't give any information on how to even approach this.

2^25  *  5^27

 

Note that we can write this in the following manner

 

[2 * 5 ]^25    *  5^2   =

 

[10]^25  *   25  =

 

25  x 10^25  =

 

2.5 x 10^26       [ in scientific notation  ]
