Quadratic equation:
One side of a rectangle is (2x-3) metres, x being a letter not number.
The perimeter of the rectangle is 50.
Show that the area A. of the rectangle is given by A=62x-84-4x^2
That part has already been done by phil this is the second part of the question.
The area of the rectangle is 126m
1)Show that 2x-31x+105=0
2)hence solve the equation for x
The area of the rectangle is 126m
1)Show that 2x-31x+105=0
2)hence solve the equation for x
So we have :
(2x - 3) (28- 2x) = 126
-4x^2 + 62x - 84 = 126
-4x^2 + 62x - 210 = 0 divide both sides by -2
2x^2 - 31x + 105 = 0 factor
(2x - 21) ( x - 5) = 0 set each factor to 0 and solve and we get that x = 21/2 or x = 5
