Question

in order to add or subtract fractions you first have to get a common denominator (the number on the bottom)

 

so 1/2 and 1/5 

the common denominator is 10 (2*5)

so we take 

1/2 and make it 5/10

 

and 1/5 becomes 2/10

 

so 5/10+2/10=7/10

 

so 1/2+1/5=7/10
