why do you name unknown numbers with X, Y, Z and not A,B,C

We can (and often do) use ALL of the letters of the alphabet      ....  look at the quadratic formula.  Some letters are most often used to represent constants, like g for gravity etc. , others for unknowns, like h for height , b for base etc.....   x,y,z   help avoid confusion....as you get further along in physics, statics, dynamics, mechanics of materials etc you will see a LOT of other variables used......
