To get this, count from your decimal point to the right until you get to the spot right after the first number that is not a 0 (in this case, its a 1).

 

You will see that you have to count to 6 to get to that spot. Since you moved to the right 6, its negative. 

 

So you put your decimal after that number, and write the rest of the number after the decimal, and than multiply that 10^(-6) AKA 10 to the number you got previously.

 

So your answer in scientific notation would be 1.010101010101 x 10^(-6).
