PEMDAS, like Melody said is needed. So, exponents and parenthesis. -3^2 is 9. 9*2 is 18. Now, remember pemdas. Do not add 4. First, do 4/-2. That will get you -2. 18+-2 is 16 like Melody said.

You need to do it in pedmas order

Parenthesis

exponents

division and multiplication

addition and subtraction.

(-3)^2=-3×-3=9

9*2=18    and    4 divided by -2=-2

18+-2=16
