solve simultaneous equations

y=x^2-7x-7, y=3x+5
i am stuck, can anyone assist please

solve( y=x^2-7x-7, y=3x+5 )


y=x^2-7x-7 and y=3x+5

x^2-7x-7 = 3x+5
x^2-7x-7-(3x+5) = 3x+5-(3x+5)
x^2-10x-12= 0
Quadratic formula: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quadratic_equation

x = -sqrt(37)+5 and x = sqrt(37)+5
insert x in "y=3x+5", then:
y = -(3*sqrt(37))+20 and y = 3*sqrt(37)+20
