When the votes were counted, it was found that 15 percent of the people in Brenham had voted. If 2100 has voted, how many people lived in Brenham?

I got this far

15/100 * x = 2100

what do I do from here?

Let P be the total population.....and 15%  = .15  ....  and "of" means "multiply"....so we have

.15 P  = 2100   divide both sides by .15

P = 14000

15/100 * x = 2100

.15x=2100 divide both sides by .15

x=2100 / .15=14,000 people in Brenham.
