what walk on 4 legs in the morning 2 legs at noon and 3 legs in the evening

The Riddle of the Sphinx....!!!

The answer....man

4 legs in the morning......he crawls when he's a baby

2 legs  for most of his life

3 legs when he's old... (in the "evening")....{he walks with a cane when he's old}

My dad was 83 when he died, and at no time did he use a stick.

Is this a case of an exception disproving a rule ?

Actually Bertie you have got a point. 

I know a lot of old people and very few of them use a cane. 

Many use a frame, that would mean that they have 4 legs and 2 wheels.      

Hence there must be a different answer to the riddle.
