Whole Numbers are simply the numbers 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, ... (and so on)

No Fractions!

Whole numbers are all the nonnegative integers

$$0, 1, 43, 234678, 356545789765$$ are all whole numbers

$$-5, \frac{1}{2}, \pi, 3.9, 6\frac{2}{3}$$ are not whole numbers.

-5 is a negative integer

½ is not an integer

$$\pi$$ is not an integer

3.9 is not an integer

$$6\frac{2}{3}$$ is not an integer.

All this time, I have not answered the question at hand: Is 0 a whole number?

Yes, 0 is a whole number.
