It takes Jonathan 2/3 as long as it takes Juancho to paint a car. If they are together it will take 12 hours. How long will Juancho take if he will work alone?

Together they work at 2/3 + 1 = 5/3 cars/hour, so they will completley wash 5/3 * 12 hours = 20 cars.

Since Jauncho can wash 2/3 cars per hour, it will take him 20 / (2/3) hours to complete the task.

2/3 cars/hour + 1 car/hour = 5/3 cars per hour

12 hours * 5/3 cars/hour = 20 cars

20 cars * 1 hour/car = 20 hours.

It will take Jauncho 20 hours to complete the task by himself.

Let the time it takes Juancho to paint a car =x, then:

The time it takes for Jonathan to paint a car =2/3x, but we have:

1/x + 1 / (2/3x) = 1 / 12, solve for x

x=30 hours for Juancho to paint a car, and:

30 x 2/3 =20 hours for Jonathan to paint a car.
