A point T on a segment with endpoints D (1, 4) and F (7, 1) partitions the segment in a 3:1 ratio. Find T. You must show all work to receive credit.

The change in x is from   1 to 7       6 units

The change in y is from 4 to  1        -3 units

A RATIO of 3:1 means the line is divided into FOUR segments (3+1)

we want three of those segments from endpoint D    (an alternative would be three segments from fpoint F...I assumed from point D)

6 units x 3/4     added to the x value of 1 = x=5.5

-3 units x 3/4    added to the y value of 4 = y = 1.75
