a)  The median will be the middle value of the data

We have 30   values

The middle value will  be  in the class category 2  ≤ h <  3

 

b)  We can use a weighted average to estimate the mean....assume that the weighted  number of hours in each category is the midpoint of the category...for instance....for the first category, assume .5 hours as the midpoint weight

 

[ 4 (.5)  + 8(1.5)  + 11 (2.5)  + 7 (3.5) ] / 30  ≈  2.2 hours
