Hi guys, I worked on it but I don't know how to fulfill this two question, if someone could help me ?

3.    A survey of 240 freshmen found that 160 took Math, 145 took English, and 30 took neither Math nor English.

I did the Ven diagram 60 in the left side for maths / 95 for both /50 in the right side for english / and 30 outside for neither

c).    The student took Math or English.

P = ( The student took Math or English )  =

160/240 + 145/245 - 95 - 240 =

210 / 240 = 7/8 = approximately 87,5%

d).    The student took only one class.

e).    The student took at least one class.

Thank you guys !

d . Probability that the student took only 1 class equal the sum of the leftmost and rightmost numbers in the circles divided by 240  = [60 + 50] / 240  = 110/240  = 11/24 = about 45.8%

e.  Probability that the student took at least one class  = 1 - P(that they took neither class)   =

1 - 30/240   =   1- 3/24   =   21/24 = 7/8  =   87.5%

Unfortunately.......the app that enables us to upload images is not working at this time.....I can describe the Venn diagram to you, however

Outside the cirlces there will be a category "Neither"   this will = 30

There will be two circles intersecting........the left circle can be labeled "Math"  and the right one "English"     the intersecting part can be labeled "Both"

In the leftmost part of the Math circle, we have the number  65

In the intersection of the circles [ "Both"]  we will have the number 95

In the rightmost part of the English circle we will have the number 50

Probability that they took Math (M) or English (E)  is given by:

P(M or E)   = P(M) + P(E) - P(M and E)  =

                      160/240    +  145/240  - 95/240  =   210/240  =  7/8  = about 87.5%

THE NUMBERS APPEAR TO BE DIFFERENT, BUT JUST USE THE SAME PROCEDURE WITH YOUR NUMBERS TO GET YOUR ANSWER.

"Unfortunately.......the app that enables us to upload images is not working at this time....."

A workaround (temporary I hope!) is as follows:

1.  Outside of the forum go to :  http://tinypic.com/?t=postupload

2.  Ignore the stuff that says "1 message waiting for you" (it's just advertising) and upload your image.

3. Copy the URL that appears in the last (bottom) box.

4. Return to the forum and choose the Image icon.

5. Paste the URL into the URL box on the "Image info" tab and click on OK.
