2d = d + 11 + 11 First, write out the equation.

2d = d + 22 Then, combine like terms.

2d - d = d - d + 22 Move all the d to one side of the equation by subtracting. You MUST subtract from both sides since what you do to one side, you must do to the other.

d = 0 + 22 Here, the d - d  cancel, leaving you with 0d, or more simply, zero.

d = 22 This is your answer.

If you put it into the original equation it checks.

2d = d + 11 +11

2(22) = 22+ 11 + 11

44 = 44

2d  =  d + 11 + 11

2d  =  d + 22

d  =  22                     (subtract d from both sides)
