We take the distance between the center of the sphere and the point and subtract the radius of the sphere......

The sphere's  radius   = 6  and its center is (1, -2, 0)

So we have

√ [ (1 - 4)^2  + ( -2 - 0)^2 + (0 - 5)^2]  -  6   =  √ 38  -  6  ≈  0.1644 units
