5/7*c=5/8
we will divide 5 of both sides at the same time we will multiply 7c *8 two sides
and after that we will see that
8=7*c and then we will divide 7 of both sides and we reach that question
c=8/7
Aztek got the right answer, but his work is wrong because you can't divide out the 5 and leave the denominator as a numerator.
it's really 5/7c = 5/8
multiply both sides by 7c and 8
5(8) = 5(7c)
5(8) = 35c
40 = 35c
divide by 35
40/35 = c
c = 8/7
This is a good example of why our instructor tells us to check our work.
C ≠ 8/7
If you substitute 8/7 into the equation it will not = 5/8
Using your graphic calculator, try this.
5/7 x (8/7)
You will get 40/49
The correct answer is 7/8. Try it for yourself.
5/7 x (7/8) = 5/8 or .625
C = 7/8
