Absolute values of numbers are positive.

So the equation would be:

|9| +|3| * (-3)(4)

= 9 + 3 (-3)(4)

And since -3 * 4 = -12, the equation continued:

= 9  + 3(-12)

= 9 + (-36)

Adding a negative number is the same as subtracting the corresponding positive number.

= 9-36

= -27
