A rectangular carpet is x+5 feet wide and 3x-2 feet long. What is the area, in square feet, of the carpet, in terms of x?

Hm. I don't think we need the perimeter.

We have the length and the width and we want to find the area. To do so, multiply legnth times width.

$$\begin{array}{l}
Area = length\times width\\
Area = (x+5)\times (3x-2)\\
\end{array}$$

Now we need to multiply this out. Remember FOIL!

So, in square feet, in terms of x, our area is 3x2 + 13x - 10 sq. ft.
