Botanists studied the leaves of a coconut palm tree to determine the water content of a leaf. They discovered that the water content, y grams, per 100 square centimeters of leaf area depends on the width of the leaf, x centimeters. The relationship is described by the equation One leaf was found to have a water content of 2.42 grams per 100 square centimeters. What is the width, in centimeters, of the leaf?

I believe that you need more information; just knowing that the water content depends upon the width of the leaf is not sufficient; you need to know how (the mathematical amount) it depends.
