x(x-8)=(x^2-8x)

*NOTE* Sorry for the messy writing above... I learned how hard it was to write in paint.***

You can solve this by breaking it up into different sections. first make sure you distribute the 8 along all of the possible combinations.

For example:

(x*x) (x*-8)

now we know that x*x= x^2 due to X^2 literally meaning X*X. We also know that X*8=8X but since the 8 is a negative the negative should carry over. so the section should equal -8X. now combine all the sections back together and you should get your answer of (X^2-8X).

Now keep in mind if the question was (x-3)(x+5) you would break it into (X*X)(X*5)(-3*X)(-3*5) You should solve each section. (X^2)(5X)(-3X)(-15) Now combine all of the sections together.  X^2+5X-3X-15. Now simplify the answer X^2+2x-15.

*NOTE* Make sure that all of the combinations are satisfied.
