start by adding 1/8 because remember anytime a number move to the other side of the equal sign it changes its sign

so -24-1/8p=3/8p

 

         +1/8p=1/8p

-24=4/8p divide on both side 4/8

so the answer is p=-48

and to check the answer you multiply -48*4/8 which will equal -24.

so check 4/8(-48)=-24

you can check it on the scientific calculator

-24-\frac{1p}{8}+\frac{1p}{8}=\frac{3p}{8}+\frac{1p}{8}\\\\
-24=\frac{4p}{8}\\\\
-24=\frac{p}{2}\\\\
-48=p\\\\
p=-48$$
