Those arrows on the lines mean that the lines are parallel.

The transversal is the line that cuts the two parallel lines.

Picture moving the bottom line up the transversal until it sits right on top of the upper line.

Now the 70° angle is sitting right across from the angle marked "q".

These two angles together form a straight line (180°), so how many degrees are in ∠q?
